Security Issues When Using Web Browsers

Your system is not using cookies. This reduces privacy and security, so it is strongly recommended for your own protection that you flush your browser cache and quit you browser as described below.

At Forward America we take your privacy and security very seriously. The comments here are provided as helpful information in case you are equally concerned about your security. The issues discussed here are not unique to Forward America. They apply to your usage of all world wide web sites using your computer as it is currently set up.

The Forward America web site takes extra measures to insure that no one else can access your account information after you leave our site. However, web browsers keep copies of information that has been displayed on your computer and the world wide web provides no way to guarantee that these local copies can't be viewed at a later time (by users going "back", or using other more advanced techniques). Forward America uses all available mechanisms to request that browsers delete this information and not redisplay it, and in most cases this is very successful. Unfortunately, some browsers might not play their part.

With these issues in mind, after using our sign-off button in the upper right of each page you are probably more safe walking away immediately than leaving your car in the parking lot of the local grocery store -- locked. Nevertheless (and especially if you use a publicly accessible computer), you may wish to consider taking extra measures, equivalent to using a Clubfor your car, as described below.

Even on web browsers that do not honor Forward America's request that browsers delete visited web pages and not redisplay them, local copies of information kept on your computer will eventually expire over time, as your browser is quit and started, and more recently visited pages replace older web page information. So, eventually, without doing anything, no one will be able to go "back", or use other techniques, to view web pages you have used. However, you can accelerate this process if you:

  • Flush the browser's cache (the cacheis the place copies of web pages are saved). See your browser's help for "flush" and "cache." Flush both memory and disk, if the browser provides separate options for this. (Maybe the menu items Edit : Preferences : Advanced : Cache, or Tools : Internet Options : General : Temporary Internet Files.)
  • Quit the browser to eliminate use of the Backcommand to return to web pages that display your account information.
  • Performing these two operations adds an extra measure of safety to your browsing privacy.
